Welcome to the website of Rowans Primary School and I hope that by using the site you will get a picture of our vision, aims and of the values we uphold.
Although we place a great emphasis on standards of Maths and Literacy, we also aim to develop the children's wider skills through our creative curriculum. The children at our school are enthusiastic learners and we do our very best to make activities engaging, challenging and fun!
About our school...
Rowans School, which opened in 1964, is situated in the Haldens area of Welwyn Garden City. Originally it was just a junior school but in the 1970s it was extended to include infants. Today we have a Nursery class too and are therefore able to accept children from three to eleven years of age. The school is set in spacious grounds overlooking very attractive countryside.
Rowans has 8 classrooms and an area for the Nursery. The Nursery and the Reception aged children work closely together in the Foundation Stage. All the classrooms are large and well resourced. We also have a hall, library and dining room. We have a fully equipped ICT suite with 36 laptops with a range of innovative ICT resources such as Ipads and Ipods. All classrooms and the hall have interactive whiteboards, with an integrated speaker system. The school has recently completed building work and now boasts two spacious conservatories which are used as intervention rooms.
There is a large playing field which includes space for two 7-a side football pitches. In the summer the children use the field as extra playtime space. The playground, which includes two netball courts, is ideally sized for a variety of playtime activities for all age ranges in the school. We also have lots of lovely equipment on our playground including; a climbing wall, pirate ship, monkey bars, spider web and outside table tennis. The Foundation Stage has a range of climbing equipment and access to two separate playgrounds. We have a buddy system in use, which includes playground game supervision and class specific play equipment.
Our School Council plays an active role in our school, where the voice of the child is paramount.
We have a range of extended school provision, including Rowans Pre-School which is on our school site.We also run a daily breakfast club which can be accessed from 7.45am every day. We offer a range of services for our local community through a range of activities and work closely withWaterside Children's Centre which is located on our school site.
Rowans prides itself on being fully inclusive, with high expectations and aspirations for all pupils.
